The fork in the road (blame my GPS..)

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both"
-Robert Frost

I never get a full dose of inspiration when reading poems; I usually just look at them, think of how deep they were to the writers, try to figure out the symbolism, then peace the heck out [because class is finally over]. Not this poem, though. The Road Not Taken is my shit currently.

When have you had to make a tough decision between two important (possibly life changing) things? Do you take the path that you know how things will turn out? The "smooth sailing", the comfortable because I know what to say/feel/do at that moment in time. Or do we find ourselves taking chances (cranking on the Dave Matthews, FYI) and take the left fork in the road. The one we were warned about. But we do it for the thrill. Is there at any point in our journey that we realized we probably should have taken the other road, but now we can't go back. If we tried, I'm pretty sure my chances of injury would be severe.

How do you know you will pick the right road? When will you know? Is it at our final destination we sit down to think. What if we regret? I don't want to regret, but then again I don't think anyone does.

Robert Frost states (for whatever reason/situation) he took the road less traveled and that made all the difference. Will the less traveled, less familiar path that I choose be my answer? My forever? Or my 'just for now'? I know Robert Frost isn't my spirit animal, hero, or someone I "hit up on the celli" when making daily decisions, but I guess it's truly all about gut feelings

I'm pretty sure I'm just awkwardly stuck at the fork because my damn bitch of a GPS has me confused as to which way I truly want to go. Help?

  1. I think we get caught up in decisions by determining whether they are right or wrong. And it always limits us, because either decision will have an outcome and it will be positive if you make it that way. Both paths may be great, that doesn't mean one journey will be more negative over the other. If we look at them as if both will be fun/exciting, then why can't both paths be right?

  2. I'm not one that uses a GPS. But I know who can we can use as the ultimate GPS. God...He's always there and he can help you make the right decision. All you got to do is ask.

  3. I think at some point in your life you realize, even if you chose the wrong way to go, it ends up okay. It seems the biggest regret people have is not taking chances, so I think as long as you don't sit back and let things slide by, you won't regret your choices.

  4. robert frost is my jam. stopping by woods on a snowy evening is also the shit.

but seriously, looking at the poem, he actually says both paths are the same. he romanticizes ironically the idea that the "less travelled road" was the better one. in reality there was no difference. he made a choice and that was it. we need to make a choice. and not look back and regret the what ifs of the other choice.

  5. This post reminds me of a movie I saw and the main point was every choice is the right choice, every life is the right life. It was a really interesting movie but love this post!

  6. Aw this is lovely and honest - I love love this post. Its definitely hard to determine which road will be the best traveled for any given event, but it is important to realize, usually when you work your ass off, you get a good result. (for the mostttt part) love you! xx

  8. Follow your gut! You'll learn from it regardless of whether it was good or bad. You'll learn and you'll (if not immediately, someday) be thankful for at least trying.
