It's Magic [A review]!

The other day while purchasing a new striped black tank (are we surprised? no) the wonderfully happy tatted up lady wished me a magical rest of the day. I sort of shook it off and went on with my shopping (read: I hit up Dairy Queen). Magical, magical, magical, I kept thinking...no really. It is way too underrated of a word and that can bring spirits up so high. Truthfully from that moment on, I think I've looked at all things both extremely magic and not so wizard-like with a "+1".
When I think of magical..I think of a happy place/thing...which is what Blo/Out is. If you're in the city visiting a friend, a company trip, or even a local with a case of much needed stress relieving...you better take my recommendation into consideration. Luckily, within a 50+ mile radius of my home, I have a Blo/Out location ready to take my appointment (via phone or online)! Before this past trip to the beautiful castle (read: Old City area), I had a chance to check out the one in Rittenhouse Square.

The Washington Square location is exactly what a dry bar should be...relaxation...mimosas...champaign...girlie movies on loop...and the wonderful color palette we all love and adore(and probably put on our Myspace/Xanga/AOL instant messenger profiles at one point or another). Can you say "hello, beautiful"?  I went sans partner-in-crime but saw the happiest group of ladies leaving satisfied, giggling, and picking the perfect filter for their latest instagram update. Cue C1 on VSCOcam...my personal favorite.

My personal favorite 'blo' away touch is the lifespan of my locks...fit for a queen! Each time I've gone I've been able to get at least TWO days out of my hair. How? Ask for lots of volume and curls. I was so happy when leaving my Blo/Out appointment for my hair is FINALLY *somehow* getting back to my natural color. What's their secret?!
The treatment, the hospitality of the staff, *the coffee/drinks*, the cleanliness of each store (trust me, it's spotless) and the feeling you get after you leave? Comparable to strutting your stuff like theirs no tomorrow. The streets of Philly are YOUR runway/catwalk.

Blo/Out has different styles to chose from (such cute up do's) AND will feature you on their instagram. I mean, you tell me something cooler than that. Call up Pitbull because shawty's fire burning on the dance floor!

Wether you're testing a new style for an upcoming date, or just want to feel truly MAGICAL, you better be booking your appointment with Blo/Out bar. STAT.

Note: Ask for Jen! Highly reccomended. Great customer service.

Rittenhouse Square: To do

Hat: H&M
Top: Forever 21
Shorts: H&M
Crossbody: H&M (similar)
Shoes: Marshalls

There are weeks where I spend day after day, driving over the sacred scary bridge to enter the world of the place where the constitution was signed. A tourist attraction for many, but a second home to me. Rittenhouse Square is a place for everyone. The bloggers, the hipsters, the couples, the elites -- even you and me.

If you're ever in the area there are places you must check out:
Food: Parc / Crazy Sushi / Marathon Grill
To Do: Walk the Park (usually to people watch/see a free concert) / Blo Out Bar
Shop: Madewell / Barnes & Noble / Free People / Anthropology
Coffee: Elixr / Parc

Quick and easy access to Swann Fountain and Love Park

What else would you add to the list of things to do in Rittenhouse?

Main Street, U.S.A

Here ye, here ye. Or in todays rap music: Ay bay bay. Regardless, remember me? I had an awesome giveaway live on the blog last week and here I am, a week later, well rested (actually scratch that, I need a mental health day from life), and stressed with the amount of shenanigans I have to put up with in the next 12+ hours. My post is going to be NOWHERE as awesome as Erin's, but I'll try I promise. So while everyone on the east coast was dealing with freezing weather, I was soaking up the sun with Minnie and my homie, Belle.

Unfortunately Mr. Camera decided to either play a solid game of hide and seek (come out already..), or else a angry ogre stole my camera. Good luck with that one considerings it's endless Disney pictures AND MY FACE.

The best:
Park: Hollywood Studios (We went on Monday according to our App)
Show: Beauty and the Beast, clearly / Laugh Room / The Great Movie Ride
Food: The Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches
Meal in general: Wolfgang Puck (@ Downtown Disney)
Temperature: 86* (why don't I live in Florida?)
Fastpass: Helped beat the crowds A CRAP TON. If you stay at any main Disney Resort, you get to have access to FastPass up to weeks before your arrival!

The worst:
Park with crowds: Magic Kingdom, of course.
Park in general (personal opinion): Animal Kingdom (Never liked it as a kid)
Ride/Attraction: A Bugs Life. As a kid, I went to that show and felt things at my toes and a pinch in my back. I also hateeee insects so this show has never done it for me. I left screaming, just like I did when I was 5.
Food: @ Hotel (we stayed off Disney Property)
Airline: SOUTHWEST. Despite free bags which is great because I pack too much for even a day away from my closet. But the fact you have to standby and check in to reserve your number. Like excuse me let me leave my important meeting because it's 24 hours before my flight and I need to make sure I get a seat. Also my staff was rude. So BYEBYE. Clearly, I left pissed and never wanting to fly them again - but let's be real I probably will.

Misc/Advice:
-Although it may be cheaper to stay off property, you might not want to. We lost a ton of time at the parks because our hotel's bus schedule was the opposite of convienient. I promise you staying on site is much better.

-Every year I go to Universal, not Disney because the fast pass system (If you stay at their hotels you get fast pass for EVERY ride). Disney finally got this system going, but it's frustrating to have to wait in the long line then plan your day out because of the wait times. I was only there for a long weekend so I had a day at each park....didn't get to ride the best stuff (i.e Toy Story Mania) because of wait times!!!!)

-I didn't get the Disney Experience App, however I did get the Disney WaitTimes App. Still not sure how accurate it truly was but it had a 'crowd forecast' to tell us which days to avoid what park and I'm pretty sure it helped me out in the end!

-GET CREPES IN PARIS. GET MANY. And send them to me via mail. Or just come over.

I think I'll go to boston

I don't think you are a true 20 something if you don't go to boston and come back with nothing else to caption anything except the ultimate depressional tune brought to you by Augustana (who is kickbutt live, for the record).

I figured since today is filled with getting my life back into the real person groove (read: not cough up and sell a few lungs or two), I'll recap my boston trip....a week later. Thats normal right. But I mean, what do you care? You probably don't. Just reading blogs to make your monday go a little faster. And for that, I thank you for letting me bug you on a monday morning.

But think of my post as that picture book in the 3rd grade you were REALLY excited for your english teacher to show you because it had ONLY PICTURES. Well, if we're going to get technical a few words...but I mean what did it matter to you? You just looked for the awkwardly drawn things that were supposed to represent humans.

 Craziest and cutest of pups.
Brown Cinnamon Sugar and Butter Crepe (c/o "Paris"): May or may not have wanted to take a picture of the whole place except sometimes I'm too awkward to just pull out my camera for a good ole panorama.
Brandy Melville Store [Newbury St.]: I've learned this line isn't just featured in pac sun. It's a real store. SUPER cute too. My friends sister got THE cutest of plaid dresses that only a Constantine Prep (Gossip Girl Reference) Queen B could wear.  (and michelle.)
Qunicy Market: because who doesn't love food that you need to unbutton your pants a notch or two after eating?
Mike's Pastry: So it was everything it was supposed to be and more. If you ever make it to Boston, hit 'em up. We went when the lines were luckily super short but once we sat down, they were almost out the door. If it was legal to bring these babies on carry on with me or have them on first flight to NJ, I would be 100% okay with picking them up in arrivals at the airport.
 Harvard: because, future husband.
Have you ever heard of Starbucks?: It's this really great place I found in Harvard Square. They also still serve PSL's (we know I love them..it's what I got on the first date with Kiddycup!) You know I'm not crazy right....I've been to starbucks before. And of course I damn right documented it. I also really like my nail color.

Thanks for exploring with me lady! There is no one else I'd rather have fall asleep on me at 1030PM than you.

The Beauty of Strangers

You see, here on le blog, its rarer than steak that I get senti up in this joint.
I've always dreamed of the day to have this weird feeling. Ok, it's really not what you think. I didn't finally get a boyfriend or engaged....since being engaged requires having a boyfriend. I met someone on a plane. Usually when I fly alone, I always am stuck next to the smelly beef jerky type of business dudes...or people that just really aren't fun.

Back in the good ole '04 (circa, at least...) when AIM profiles were a thing, I was the girl sitting behind my screen envying the people who made stupid inside jokes with friends they met on vacations and couldn't wait to come home to upload their dumb quotes. Chances are, the friends they made wouldn't even see it. Does anyone else see that thrown of lies? I also watched my mom have the ability to pull a rico suavè and start up a conversation with anyone.

On my flight home from Boston, I was waiting for the sacred 4th zone to be called to board. You know the zone filled with single 20 somethings, randoms, and also your smelly beef jerky dudes. It's also the zone thats like, the cheapest because who the eff wants to voluntarily sit in the back? Right...me neither. So like I was saying, I was looking at this girl (judging her, oops) and listened to her say words along the lines of "SPRING BREAK...OMG HAVE FUN", so I judged her because I think I'm too mature for my own good. Right wrong.

Betch hit me with her big ass vera bradley. Not cool. I shook it off, kept walking. Sat down at my seat, pulled up instagram to see how many likes I received, and of course, I saw what I thought would be my worst nightmare saying "Sorry, I'm sitting next to you".

I wanted to make conversation. I've always wanted a plane friend. (I'm weird, I get it...) After watching her awkwardly avoid me and study her 'Organic Chem For Dummies', I finally decided to let my awkwardness surround her. Sorry not sorry. It ended up, she was a freshman in college, at a college my friends go to. We talked about how much college professors suck, to how my life is a crazy mess. She probably judged.

But the greatest part? I was able to spill my entire life to a stranger (in about an hour..oops) and the crazy yet beautiful part is that I'll never see her again. Yet, now she has a story to tell during sorority recruitment, during the next time she's about to get a boyfriend, and probably when she and her friends are gossiping about strange things they've encountered when slapping down a good ole J in Kings (Never have I ever, obv).

Maybe this makes no sense, but it's the stupidest thing ever on my bucket list and I'm happy I achieved it. The little damn things in life make you basically the most sentimental. Now give me a hug, I'm basically a build a bear filled with emotion.  Don't squeeze me though.

Canada with a blogger, Eh?

I went to Canada. You knew that if you followed me on instagram with the overload of artsy beer pictures, thinking I'm cool at a casino (because I was freakin legal), and all that fun shenans with my date (who blacked out all afternoon saturday. Yes, we are not going to talk about that)...Hey Noah...

Where does the blogger part come in? Well being that Rachael and Ashleigh came over to my friends frat palace all the brothers asked how we knew each other and we said we met through blogging. One of my friends friends (hey there if you end up reading this) kept saying all weekend "look there's the blogger....it's the blog girl". I actually found it hilarious since most people in real life don't just see me and say oh hey it's Rachel the blogger.

Who says you can't talk about your past weekend on the start of a new weekend? Yea, I don't think there really are any rules against that. No blog police, no problem. I don't think I need to string words together, but if this was a fridge magnet thingy (ya know we used to play with them when we were kids?) I would use these words to describe my weekend:

drink, casino, and 2AM falafel.

Sounds fun right? No really, it really was.

Probably my favorite picture from the weekend: Selfies with Falafel, anyone?
*If you've never had Falafel, you can go back to hiding under a rock now...*
So casual.
Well, I'm sure no weekend anytime soon will compare.

November, I want you

It's what you think. I've been in love with november for quite a while. Errrrr okay so like two months but basically I'm in love. It's real and true, I swear.

Whyyyyyyyyyy should november be so good to me? I swear we are a match made in heaven for the first time. Normally I loathe any month after it starts getting under 60 degrees (read: October), and I hibernate until flowers are rebirthed and I find my first spider to scream at. Ahhhhh, spring. Think of me as Sandy from spongebob in her bubble of a house (as if that ever made sense though...). Also I hate spongebob, but this year I finally am excited for fall.

I want to experience the whole she-bang. Non-hibernation, livin' life, and all. NYC before the snow, crankin' up those christmas tunes until I finally find new music, black friday JK going to orlando, and choose not to sit inside falling asleep at the same hours of newborn babies and live a little.

November? You're lookin' pretty good.

In just a week from Thursday, I will be leavin' on a jet plane, and entering the land of the O-H-I-O. Flight lands at 10PM, then what? You asked for it. I AM MEETING ASHLEIGH AND RACHEL. They are driving an hour to meet me for a night. It just goes to show you that sometimes you have a greater connection with blog-land friends than friends you've known for a while. Heck, friends I've had since 'nam wouldn't drive an hour to visit me at my college or if they were for whatever reason near me. Blogger, you've been great in my life.

Granted, I can only see them for so long. But I think we are all excited to discuss blogging, endless picture sesh, and anything else a blog date includes. Food? Let's hope food. Or wine. Or basically anything that you find on a #ThirstyThurs. 'Nuff said. See ya soon, gal pals (Insert endless smileys and winky faces here).

Friday the 8th comes and boom. Off to Canada I go for one of my best guy friends frat formal. Way to excited considering I haven't seen him since April 2012. Note: He is paying for everything. I must admit, I'm a lucky one....No phone, huh? Off the charts/record type thing. No insta's, no tweets about how I love canada and wearing reveling clothing and feeling legal and ready to parrrrtay. Let's do this.

So like, what's school?
A few weeks later I am off to my annual thanksgiving trip to Universal with the fam. We go almost every year, except I didn't last year, and it stunk. We have a ritual where we always check out Margaritaville and get the mile high stomach ache giver nachos. Nothing makes me happier, except when I'm by the bathroom for the rest of the night....There have been happier times.
back when I was a fetus aka three years ago

With last year aside, November is a good friend. I met my best friend two November's ago, and I wouldn't change a thing.

Without further adieu (or however the eff you spell/pronounce it...)....thanksgiving stuffing, warm weather, drinking legally, blogger meet ups, and nearing the end of the semester, November, are you ready to be mine?

Xo,
Yours truly.

the freakin weekend: Weekend Shenans (+GIVEAWAY)

Remember how I told you I was generally excited psyched for this weekend? Well, it was pretty awesome. Aside the 6 hours spent in a car on friday. (read: 3 to get home from school. an hour home. 3 hours driving to friends. yahoo)

After DEVOURING YUMMY CHIPOTLE...the night began. I will spare you my little "under 21 getting into a bar" fun details, but if it gave you any flashbacks to you being in college...ya know how it is ;)

Ya know how I told you one of my good friends and I look like twins? Well some random old guy (typical, I guess) came up to US asking if we were twins. We, being silly girls who looked younger than half the population at this bar, said yes. He then proceeded to ask us if our names were weird twin names like Sarah and Sar-ah. LITERALLY WHAT TWINS DO YOU KNOW, DUDE? Regardless, them fireball shots got me feelin' like Whit.

Also, reuniting with a friend you haven't seen in a year+? So great. She still had me cracking up always and it was SO fun to talk about memories from our trip/ life in high school. Best part? We had identical matching black peplum shirts packed and we didn't even plan it. #ItslikeESPNorSomething...
Saturday, despite the icky weather, we headed to Baltimore Inner-harbor. I was freakin' out that it was so close. I love adventuring. And I love the feeling of being on vacay. Then again, who doesn't? Right.
Can we also talk about how Urban was having a 50% EVERYTHING sale? I bought a cute pair of shorts for ONLY 10 doll-hairs. Seriously, what is life!
Too bad friday night drinks on drinks on drinks got the best of us and caused us to do nothing but bake cookies on saturday night. I am beyond grateful for friends I can go forever without seeing and act as if a day hasn't gone by.

Coolest part of my weekend? Ya know you are a blogger when you see this...and freak out because you know someone with this blog title. Shout out to Kelli!

My best friend, Miss USA

Make sure you check out my blog biff Lauren's take on our super fab 24 hour blog date in DC. I keep rereading it because I would love anything to go back to those two days. It made my summer!
*****

Where do I begin? Maybe at the part that B called in sick to work (shhh) to come with me? Or maybe that he brought me chocolate covered gummy bears FOR BREAKFAST (which is my guilty pleasure)? Ok, that sounds about right. An early morning filled with excitement in the air. I was so excited. More excited than you've probably ever been. Not even kidding....After a train ride and running through the city we made it to 8th and 51st street. Can I get an Amen? Fab, thanks!

So I fangirl-ed. Hard. First off, before she got there I realized I was the oldest one there (besides parents). A girl who won a title in CT was there, a little girl who was with her rents, and two middle school girls who were somehow related to Miss USA (not too sure). But all I was thinking was How do they have twitters? They're like five....*I won this free trip through a twitter contest!!!!!* I of course put on my Alyssa Campanella phone case so people would realize how obsessed I am with pageants. In addition to drinking sbucks, I was off the walls bouncing. B wanted to punch me in the face multiple times, I'm sure. I was screaming/crying/singing/rambling. Maybe everyone wanted to ductape my mouth shut now that I think about it. I invited my pageant friend, Sam, along too and I was freaking out she wouldn't make it in time. SORRY TRYING TO NOT BORE YOU....Overall I was upset because noone was as excited as I was to be there. I saw Miss USA, Erin Brady, and cried. I get it I AM PATHETIC. I was so so so happy though. Since it's been a dream to meet a Miss USA. I introduced myself to her and she was like "Yeah I've seen your tweets before" and I showed her my Alyssa phone case. She laughed. Scooooooore!
We were allowed to ask her questions and noone did but me. But I was lovin' every second of it. However, I was disappointed because 1. The tour was only 50 minutes when they said it would be an hour and a half and 2. They promised us pics and autographs and they only gave us one picture and they pushed her right out of there, and 3. the tour was lame. we didn't get to see much!!! I was upset but it was definitely a once in a life time experience for me. Also, even B can say he's met Miss USA. He is a trooper for coming with me and making my day the best it could be. I didn't want anyone else by my side that day (because he understands my craziness more than anyone ever) and I'm so happy with how it turned out!

8/5/13

The posts you've all been waiting for (Ok..maybe just me)

Although it was a few hours short of 2 full days, it was still an amazing time and we did so much!
So happy I got to experience my first blog date!

Tuesday: B and I woke up early to take our three hour trek to DC. It went pretty quickly actually. Maybe because I was playing some Luke Bryan? I'm gonna go with yes. A few minutes outside of downtown DC, we passed a gas station. We totally forgot we had to pump gas, which neither of us have done without someone else before so we decided to skip. Keep on driving and we hit another one so we decided to stop. I WISH I TOOK A PICTURE. We were standing there waiting for someone else to pay with cash until we realized we had to go inside and pay. We did. yet B paid for a different numbered pump. UM WHAT! So he had to drive around to the right one and then we got it from there. Quite an experience. #TeamWork

As soon as we got to our hotel, we walked over to the Washington monument where Lauren and boyfriend were waiting for us! IT WAS SO EXCITING. We walked over to the WWII memorial where we took our first blogger pic. Kind of a really big deal.

After doing all the typical touristy stuff (Lincoln memorial, etc)(1) we tried to head over to the Jefferson Monument until we realized the distance and we were like errrr better not. So illegally J-walked(2) a bit and off to Georgetown(3) we went!
          1.                                                      2.                                                3.

After lunch in Georgetown, we sat near the water front where Lauren's boy fed his left over pizza crust to the ducks. (See: her instagram). Later that night at dinner we met up with my two roommates from a travel trip I went on. It was so perfect how they were both around! They bought me a birthday drink and we got some complimentary warm icky saki. Also, never trust Yelp. It looked like a nice place according to them but it was seriously in the DC ghetto. Awkward......Still sorry about that one. Later we all headed out for some froyo & Lauren and boyfriends checked out some places at night! It was the such a perfect day.

Wednesday: After a late wake up, some starbucks, and stopping at a CVS to buy blister bandaids (seriously super ouch with a side of gross), we headed off to the National Archives and some other museums and then said our goodbyes :(. Then B and I were off to see Capitol Hill and the newseum, which was AWESOME. I highly recommend it if you're ever in town! We would have been there for hours but 1. we were exhausted and ready to head home and 2. it closed at 5! We finally found the closest burrito place (cue Qudoba) and headed on outta durrrrr.
Being that I wanted to sleep forever but I can never sleep during car rides, I was delusional singing some rap songs almost the whole entire ride. I don't really think B wants to ever hear me sing again. I got so bored I asked to play 20 questions. Ya know not the one younging teenagers play to get to know someone better (Barf and awkward). I stumped B with a 'supermarket' and he stumped me with a jaguar. Like really?! It was fun and took up the last leg of our drive home. As soon as I got home, I passed out and then realized my life was going to become boring again. Bad ending, I know. TAKE ME BACK. Reality can sometimes be no fun!

Country Road take me home.

Good morning! Stop your yawning and grab some coffee with this morning read.
I'll wait....

Yep. Still waiting.

Pick me up a hazelnut ice coffee while you're at it?!
Good? Alright. Let's do this.

So I know that South Carolina (especially Myrtle Beach) is NOT considered country. But if you are a 'Joisey' (read: we don't actually pronounce it like that) girl, then you know it's a bit lot of a culture shock when you see stores with camo and confederate errrrythang.
I spent the past (almost) week in Myrtle Beach and wanted to share my trip with you.
*NOTE*: I ate the bestttttt crepes in the south. And unfortunately, they were TOO good to want to wait a minute, pick up my phone, choose an artsy filter that makes it look more delish (whaaaa?!), andddd then finally eat it. Yeah, sorry. I ate them twice this past week and I only regretted my decision after the fact. Nothing I could do about it then

Besides the beautiful southern sunsets (seen above), I got to see some awesome impersonators at Legends (A must see if going to Myrtle Beach). I watched drooled over Elvis, and got nightmares from the MJ impersonator. I thought to myself, what in the WORLD do you have to look like in real life to be a MJ impersonator?! Think about it.

Another great thing about the south is that things are so cheap! I went to a rando discount/bargain place and bought the cutest swim top for 10.00. I don't think I've found something ever so cheep even in Target!
I also discovered the comparason between the largest hand in the world. And mine. (My baby brother, who is taller than me, also has much bigger hands than me!) Ugh. Short people problems. Can you tell lately I enjoy stealing my brother's snapback because I think I look ghetto fab. Cool right? Baaasic.

A great quote learned from this trip:
"Fish and family are the same after three days: they both stink" -Some random guy a shuttle bus.
I'm with the dude on that one. As awesome as my trip was, I'm ready for my own bed. Orrrrrr more like I'm ready to get my butt to DC in TWO days!

How funny is this?! I loveee the movie Big so this made me giggle!

Enjoy your day! And the coffee I know you grabbed ;)

I can't believe

Because I miss Robin's awesome weekly wednesday I can't believe, I'm doing one on my own.
For the hell of it, of course.

Let's start off with I CANT BELIEVE that I'm meeting Lauren in a freakin' week! Six days actually. PARTAY. We are having a double date blate with our beaus who 95% think were loons for wanting to meet up with an online friend. Not getting catfished though. I hope that doesn't exist in the blog world. That would be 50 shades of messed up. Any who, we are going to start planning what we can do for our 24 hour+ date. Did I mention we are staying at the same hotel?! I'm honestly mostly excited for SUPER cute pictures and to walk around the monuments at night. I did that before (in january) and it was such an awesome experience.

My summer camp friend, Scott
I really like this picture of myself but its an awkward picture where I really can't crop him out. Erg.

Obvi reppin the dirty jerz.

I can't believe my birthday is in a little over a week. What are you buying me for my birthday?
Kidding, but a shout out would be fun!

I can't believe I need to start back to school shopping. And by B-2-S I mean dorm shop! Here's to another year! And new not ugly bed spreads! And sitting on pinterest for cute room ideas. Is it possible for me to take my bedroom with me? Because I like them helluva lot better than dorm rooms. Ick. Bet you miss those days....right?!?!

I can't believe I'm actually really excited to transfer schools. Hopefully I'll be able to blog throughout the year! Totally didn't think about that until now.

I can't believe I cut my nails short again. Trust me, I'm really upset about it. No french mani for me!

I can't believe I've literally been at the beach almost nonstop this summer. I shouldn't complain!
Check out my guest post from Lauren's blog on whats in my beach bag!
